David Davies set a new personal best as he qualified in style for Wednesday's 800m final at the World Championships. Davies finished second in his heat and fourth overall with a time of seven minutes 51.92 seconds - just shy of the British record.
"It's a big personal best for me. It's going to help my 1500m as well as it's good practise," he said.
"I was a bit sluggish as I haven't raced for a while, but I felt quite strong in the end."
Davies' main rival in his preferred 1500m discipline Grant Hackett was the fastest qualifier at 7:47.62secs.
