Harrogate-based Jenny Duncalf was unable to spring another surprise, as she lost her British Open final to world number one Nicol David. The Malaysian won 9-1, 10-8, 9-0 to reclaim the title she lost last year. Duncalf had called it "The highlight of my career to make the British Open final," after she beat Isabelle Stoehr of France in the semi-final. Earlier she enjoyed a career-best win over World and defending British Open champion Rachel Grinham. David was hot favourite to beat Duncalf in the final having beaten her on nine previous occasions, and all went to form until she led 7-2 in the second game. At that point Duncalf produced a skilful winner which inspired her to win six rallies in a row and take an 8-7 lead. David saved game ball and benefited from two mistimed shots from Duncalf which won her the game, and after that the match became totally one-sided as David won the final game to love.
