James Willstrop moved into the semi-finals of the ISS Canary Wharf Squash Classic as he finally defeated fellow Englishman Lee Beachill. Willstrop won 11-9 6-11 8-11 11-8 11-7 to record his first win against Beachill at the 13th attempt.
Willstrop will play Nick Matthew in Thursday's semi-finals after the second seed beat Wael El Hindi from Egypt 11-10 (3-1) 11-8 8-11 11-2.
Top seed Thierry Lincou beat Londoner Adrian Grant 11-8 11-9 11-10 (5-3).
Lincou, the defending champion, said: "That was a very tough match. Adrian played very well but now I have to recover for the semi-finals."
And a delighted Willstrop said: "I'm pleased to be in the semi-finals but I don't think Lee or myself is particularly bothered about the statistics. Other people have made more of that than we have."
The final quarter-final on Wednesday, which finished after midnight, was won by hard-hitting Scot John White. The US-based fifth seed beat Welsh veteran Alex Gough 11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5.
