Ritchie Davies sent defending champion Tony David spinning to a shock 5-0 defeat at darts' Embassy World Championship on Thursday.

The Welshman produced an awesome display at The Lakeside to gain revenge for last year's first-round loss to the Australian.

Davies will now face Gary Anderson in the semi-finals after the Scot beat his compatriot Bob Taylor 5-0 in the night's other game.

Davies started quickly in his quarter-final, nailing double 10 for a 14-dart leg to open his account before closing out the set with the same finish.

David - the "Deadly Boomerang" - was bent out of shape in a tense second set, which he narrowly lost, and he failed to regain his composure as his world title slipped away.

Afterwards, the deposed champion was magnainmous in defeat.

"Ritchie's got ability, talent and tonight he played the better darts," David said.

"Reflecting on the match I didn't do a lot wrong, but it wasn't meant to be tonight."

Davies was surprised and delighted by the scoreline.

"I never thought I would have beaten him by that score," he said.

"I was just focused when I went up there tonight. Tony took me out last year so I just wanted to get one back, but I never expected to do it in that style."

In the second game of the night, Taylor won the opening leg before Anderson hit back with a superb 161 checkout.

The Berwickshire thrower never looked back, reeling off the next two legs to take the opening set, before going on to dominate proceedings.

Afterwards Anderson said: "I thought I'd win tonight but I thought it would be a lot closer than that.

"I was fine against Andy Fordham but I felt a little bit nervous tonight. However, I'm through and I've got nothing to lose."

Meanwhile, Scotland's Ann Kirk booked her place in the final of the women's event with a 2-0 win over Holland's Francis Hoenselaar.
