George: I was rubbish
Bobby George is the expert summariser for the BBC's coverage of the Embassy World Championship
Bobby George - may the darts be with you
Bobby George can concentrate on his role as a BBC analyst after being dumped out of the Embassy World Championship in the first round by Ray Barneveld.

Losing to Ray Barneveld on Saturday was obviously disappointing but I started off a bit slow, he didn't miss much and I left it a bit late really.

It is difficult over these little, short sets. When they get in front you have to fight all the time.

It was a great crowd and I gave it the big-un, but played like a prat. I missed the doubles and he punished me.

Holland's Ray Barneveld beat Bobby George 3-1

At one point I went 180, 180, so I was on a nine-darter. Then I went for the 60 and missed.

I might as well have thrown it in the lake; in fact I wish I had chucked it in the lake now.

I should have made it 2-2 really, but that's the way it goes.

Of the others, John Walton did not play that well, but it was a hard game for John and Andy Fordham because they were first on.

Although Andy's not a seed he should have been, but he did not get going at all. John did his job and he can improve in the next round.

However, the second round is almost as difficult as the first because it is only five sets.

After the second round, when you get into the longer games, you'll see the players settle down.

Stefan Nagy played well against Gary Anderson but he has got to play Wayne Mardle in his next game and he was on fire last night.

Mardle must have put his darts in the oven before he played because they were so red hot he wanted to get rid of them as quickly as possible.

Richardson has now qualified four times, but he has never won on the stage at Lakeside and I feel a bit sorry for him really.

He played reasonably well, but Mardle was miles too strong for him.

Mardle and Barneveld stood out and look like they are on form.

They got in front and their opponents had to chase, and you cannot let those guys get in front.

Foreign talent

At the moment it is difficult to see who is going to come through, but it will be easier to call after the first round is over.

There are some good overseas players but it is difficult to know what their form is like.

There are more nationalities in it than ever before which is great news, but I wish they would change their names because some of them are really difficult to say.

When I am on the TV I think I will let Ray Stubbs say them first and I will just follow him.
