Anthony Hamilton (Eng) 13-9 Mark Williams (Wal)

Who will take the title? Have your say

Anthony Hamilton made light work of world number one Mark Williams to advance to the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield.

The "Robin Hood" of snooker found his range quickly in Monday afternoon's final session, compiling breaks of 58 and 79 to stretch his overnight lead to 11-7.

And frame 19 proved very damaging to former Crucible champion Williams, who missed good chances to close the gap before leaving the blue in the jaws of the pocket.

Williams did answer with breaks of 55 and 48 to win the next two frames.

But Hamilton maintained his composure, making a good escape from a snooker and adding 70 to book his place against Peter Ebdon in the last eight.

Afterwards, Hamilton said the last few frames had been nerve-wracking because he of his last-gasp loss to Williams in the final of this year's China Open.

"All I could think about was Shanghai to be honest."

"I knew if I got one good chance I would keep my head together this time.

"This is the second round of the world championship but it's no final. The nerves aren't quite the same."

I don't enjoy playing that bad but I seem to play like that fairly often
Mark Williams

"In my opinion I should have won the match 13-5 but Mark came out with some great pots and put the pressure on me a little bit."

Williams, who was bitterly disappointed with his below-par performance, hopes to rediscover his form over the summer.

"I'm sick with the way I performed. I don't enjoy playing that bad but I seem to play like that fairly often. I don't know what it is.

"It seems like if anyone plays well against me in the last year or so, they beat me. I'm not competing and I'm getting fed up.

"I'm going to have to try and sort something out in the summer."
