Bond reached the 1995 World Championship final

Derbyshire veteran Nigel Bond says he was happy with his display in snooker's first World Seniors Championship.

The 44-year-old was one of nine players who took part in the event which was staged in Bradford last weekend.

Bond reached the semi-finals where he lost to Steve Davis - who was in turn beaten by Jimmy White in the final.

"I was really pleased to beat a couple of former world champions (Peter Ebdon and Ken Doherty) and I played some good stuff," Bond said.

"But it was third-time unlucky in the end."

He added: "It's been a great event, I've enjoyed seeing some old faces and hopefully we've put on a good show."

The three-day event at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford, started on Friday and finished on Sunday and featured legends of the 1980s, as well as stars aged over 40 still competing on the professional circuit.

Fans saw seven former world champions in action with Davis, Dennis Taylor, Joe Johnson, Cliff Thorburn, John Parrott, Doherty and Ebdon starring along with former finalists White and Bond.

White, who beat Davis 4-1 in the final, added: "I'm delighted, I had to be on my game because Steve was also playing well.

"I've been putting a lot of hard work in recently, I've still got a lot of enthusiasm and I love playing.

"This has been a brilliant event, all the players have had a lot of fun and it's been great entertainment for the fans. Hopefully it will become a regular event and I'll get the chance to defend the title."
