Swail beats Couch to secure place

Swail reached his first-ever ranking event final last month

Joe Swail thrashed Matthew Couch 10-1 to secure his place in the first-round draw for the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

The draw for the tournament will be made on Wednesday at 0945 GMT.

Swail was a World semi-finalist in 2000 and 2001 and made a welcome return to form by reaching the final of the Welsh Open last month, losing to Ali Carter.

Kent-based Northern Ireland player Gerard Greene beat Ken Doherty 10-5 in their final qualifying round match.
