Record-breaker Evans keeps title

Reanne Evans retained her WLBSA World Championship title and became the first player to win the event in four successive years.

The 22-year-old from Dudley overcame flu to beat June Banks 5-2 in the final in Cambridge.

Evans has also won the IBSF version of the world title twice.

Evans said: "In some ways it's as good as the first. I felt no pressure. Coming up to this tournament I hardly picked my cue up because I was ill."

Evans also recorded the highest break of the tournament, 102 in the group stages. She is the partner of the men's world number 16 Mark Allen.

Another Dudley-based player, Maria Catalano, the cousin of world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, reached the semi-finals before losing 4-2 to Banks.
