Stephen Maguire booked his place in the World Championship quarter-finals after nipping Neil Robertson's fightback in the bud to seal a 13-7 win.

Maguire, who resumed the final session with a commanding 11-5 lead, made a slow start as Robertson kept his hopes alive by taking the first two frames.

But after going more than an hour of match time without potting a ball, Maguire finally found form.

A classy 100 break was followed by a 56 as the Scot crossed the winning line.

Maguire took an 8-0 lead at the end of the first session on Saturday, hitting two centuries and five 50-plus breaks and scoring 718 points to Robertson's 148.

But Robertson started to make some inroads into that massive lead on Sunday.

Maguire extended his lead to 9-0 in a 40-minute frame before Robertson made a 93 break to finally get on the scoreboard.

Robertson also claimed the 11th before Maguire took the next two to close to within two frames of the win.

With the pressure on, Robertson boosted his hopes by taking the final three frames - but his efforts ultimately proved to be in vain.

Maguire, who will face world number 18 Joe Perry in the last eight, said he was always confident of victory against his Australian opponent.

"I had wanted to get it done with a session to spare to give myself a day off," Maguire told BBC Sport.

"But I came out for the final session with a job to do.

"I'm in the quarter-finals and I've basically won both matches in the first session, which is unbelievable.

"To lose from there would have killed me but even when Neil came back I was looking at the scoreboard and I was still 11-5, then 11-7 ahead and I knew if I got half a chance I was going to punish him and that's what I did."
