Leicester cueman Mark Selby has defended his tactics in his stunning comeback victory in the Welsh Open.

Selby, 24, trailed Ronnie O'Sullivan 8-5 but won the last four frames to secure his first world ranking title.

O'Sullivan accused Selby of playing "negative" but Selby told BBC Radio Leicester: "I wouldn't say so.

"There's not many who can compete with Ronnie and his break building. And if you can't compete with him like that you have to revert to Plan B."

Selby admitted he was not at his fluent best in Sunday's final in Newport but was thrilled with his battling victory.

"It's all about tactics," he said. "I didn't score as well I'd like but I think my back-up game was quite solid.

"At 8-5 I did think I was more or less dead and buried but I thought 'I'm not going to give up, I'll play one frame at a time and who knows'.

"If you think you've got to win four frames on the trot against Ronnie O'Sullivan then it's a big ask but if you just think 'take one frame at a time and you never know' and thankfully I came through it.

"You feel like you're out of the match and you've nothing to lose so you relax even more."
