Selby held his nerve in an epic match |
Mark Selby saw off Ken Doherty in yet another final-frame decider at Wembley to reach the final of the Masters. In a ding-dong battle, Doherty lost the first frame but battled back to lead 2-1, only for Selby to win the next three frames on the bounce. Doherty then dragged himself back into the match with sheer guts before Selby held his nerve in a dramatic final frame to win an epic contest. Lee saw off the challenge of a poor Marco Fu in the second semi-final. | 606: DEBATE |
"I felt quite nervous at the start of the match but then got stuck in," said Lee. "I just kept Marco away from the table today and that proved decisive. "Winning the Masters would be my finest hour. Fu was unrecognisable from the man who beat Ding Junhui in Friday's quarter-final as he missed a series of sinkable pots. Lee roared into a 3-1 lead before letting Fu back in with an over-cautious approach. But he found his form again to take the final three frames in a row to set up the final clash with Selby. A crestfallen Fu said: "I felt tired against Stephen, partly because I couldn't sleep last night after my match against Ding which took a lot out of me." The on-form Selby said: "It means a world to me to reach the final - it feels like I'm on a rollercoaster. "There were plenty of nerves. I just thought in that last frame I wanted a chance and thankfully I got one." Doherty was devastated with the loss. "I feel gutted," he said. "I had a great opportunity to make the final. I had a chance in the last frame, but it just didn't work out for me. "I have have had a good tournament but at this moment in time I'm not thinking about that."
