Hunter was tipped as a future world champion |
The Snooker Writers' Association (SWA) has renamed its Newcomer of the Year award in honour of Paul Hunter, who died last week. The three-time Masters champion, who lost his battle with cancer at the age of 27, won the award in 1998.
The Paul Hunter Newcomer of the Year will be announced at next week's Grand Prix in Aberdeen.
"This reflects the huge respect and affection which he had among those who cover the game," said a SWA statement.
"He provided many great stories on and off the table over the years and carried out his media responsibilities with grace and good humour in both victory and defeat."
