Stevens is in his second final, having lost to Mark Williams in 2000 |
Matthew Stevens admitted his 17-14 win over Ian McCulloch turned on the 28th frame, won on a McCulloch foul. "That was a massive turning point. He went in off so that made it 15-13 - if it had been 14-14, the match was on a toss of a coin," he said.
"Obviously it was on my mind what's happened in previous semi-finals and when he made a break of 80 or so for 16-14, I thought 'here we go again'.
"But that's something I've been working on and it paid off this time."
When asked if he felt disappointed at having missed out on a possible 147 break in the 27th frame, he made light of his near-miss.
"I'd forgotten about that - thanks for that, I'm on a downer now," he joked.
