Paul Hunter has said he will begin his cancer treatment at St James's Hospital in Leeds on Tuesday. The 26-year-old will undergo a CT scan and will soon begin a three-month course of chemotherapy.
"I would like to thank all the medical staff at St James's Hospital for their professionalism," said Hunter, in a statement issued through World Snooker.
"I've been touched by the support I've received and the friendship of my fellow snooker players."
Hunter played in the first round, losing 10-8 in a battling display against Michael Holt.
The three-time Masters champion received a rapturous reception from the Crucible crowd, and has also had messages of support from snooker fans all over the world.
The popular Yorkshireman has also been able to rely on the support of his friends on the snooker circuit, with the likes of Matthew Stevens, Jimmy White and John Higgins all expressing their best wishes.
