Barry Pinches shows off his passion for fashion in his first round tie |
The fashion stakes were raised at The Crucible on Monday with the arrival of Norwich's finest Barry Pinches. With the ever-changing hairstyles of Ronnie O'Sullivan and Paul Hunter on show, it's not easy to compete.
But Pinches gave them a run for their money this year with a dazzling green and yellow striped waistcoat, a tribute to his beloved Norwich City.
Unfortunately, Pinches played like his team, starting off OK but ultimately losing - in this case to Ken Doherty.
When the TV cameras zoomed in on a mystery black object on the floor during Jimmy White's match, it wasn't immediately clear why.
But it turned out we were looking at referee Michaela Tabb's badge, which had fallen off her jacket.
BBC commentator Dennis Taylor couldn't help himself, saying: "Any volunteers to stick it back on, get to the back of the queue!"
Jimmy obviously wasn't interested, picking it up, and tossing it away.
It's always a notable event when a player makes a century in a World Championship clash.
So imagine the applause that came from the crowd when John Higgins opened his match against Mark Selby with the tournament's highest break.
But that was nothing compared to the gasps that came when Selby replied to Higgins' 136 in the very next frame with his own effort of 135.
Not a bad way to start any game, let alone one at The Crucible.
Steve Davis got more than he bargained for when he agreed to help carry the Commonwealth Games baton through Sheffield on its way to Melbourne.
The ever-obliging Davis agreed to a photocall outside the Crucible.
As befits a six-time world champion, Davis was soon surrounded by press photographers and autograph hunters.
In a surreal twist, onlookers also included people in chicken and teddy bear costumes in the area raising funds for a local charity. Honestly.
