Dave Harold benefitted from Ronnie O'Sullivan's withdrawal from the China Open with a second-round walkover into the last 16. Harold had beaten 16-year-old Chinese wild card Xiao Guo Dong 5-3 in his opening match.
Australian Quinten Hann will meet Ken Doherty after defeating another wild card, Guo Hua, 5-1
Tom Ford won the last three frames to beat Zheng Peng 5-3 and set up a last 32 meeting with John Higgins.
"It's a bit of luck for me I suppose and it's about time after the bad fortune I've had," said Harold, who lost 10-6 to Barry Pinches in the final qualifying round of the Embassy World Championship on Thursday.
"It's nice to have a few extra days off to get my sleep patterns back to normal. With Ronnie not coming, the draw has opened up.
"The top half is probably the easier of the two but I'll have to play better to go any further in the tournament."
