Alex Higgins will be among the competitors for the Irish Professional Championship in Dublin next week. The tournament is being revived after a 12-year absence from the calendar, and Higgins will play his opener against Gary Hardiman on Monday afternoon.
Among those vying for the title will be the 1993 winner, Ken Doherty, who went on to become world champion in 1997.
He enters the competition at the second round stage, with Fergal O'Brien, Joe Swail, Patrick Wallace and Mark Allen.
Rounds one and two and the quarter-finals will be played over the best of nine frames while the semi-finals are the best of 11 frames.
The final, played over the best of 17 frames, will take place on Wednesday 26 October.
A total prize fund of �8,000 is on offer, with the winner collecting more than �3,000.
