Family commitments come first, insists Higgins |
John Higgins says he would be willing to pull out of the final of the British Open if his pregnant wife goes into labour during the tournament. He eased into round three with a 5-1 win over Drew Henry, making breaks of 54, 52 and a match-clinching 112 but said his mind was elsewhere.
"If I didn't go and something happened during the birth I'd never be able to forgive myself," he said.
Their first son Pierce was born the same week Higgins won the 2001 Open.
Fifth seed Higgins' next opponent is Barry Pinches, but this year's world championship runner-up Graeme Dott saw his interest in the tournament brought to an early finish.
He lost 5-1 to world number 29 Michael Holt, who made breaks of 42, 87, 49 and 121 to set up a third-round clash with Shaun Murphy.
