Gault has won 15 medals in the last four Games |
Michael Gault could become the most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete after being named in the 22-strong England squad for the 2010 Games. The 56-year-old pistol shooter from Norfolk has won 15 medals in four Games and says this year's competition in Delhi will probably be his last. "I'm already one of the older shooters and I've got one more goal," he stated. "I've got the chance of becoming the most successful athlete in the history of the Games from any country." Gault has been entered in up to eight competitions in Delhi - the Games take place between 3 and 14 October. | 606: DEBATE |
He is already England's most successful Commonwealth athlete, having passed Karen Pickering's previous record haul of 13 medals during the last Games in Melbourne in 2006. If he wins four more medals, he will pass the all-time record of Australian pistol shooter Phillip Adams, who won 18 medals in six Games. The Delhi shooting team also includes 19-year-old rifle shooter James Huckle, who won a hat-trick of gold medals from the 50m rifle prone, 10m air rifle and the 50m rifle three-positions at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008.
