The sport of shooting may not always grab the headlines, but Britain has won a total of 88 Olympic medals down the years, including 14 gold. If you fancy a go yourself, take aim and fire for our guide to shooting.
The sport
Shooting is made up of rifle and pistol events.
Competitors aim either at a fixed target, or a moving target made of clay. This is called skeet shooting (a form of clay pigeon shooting).
The event used to be mixed, with men and women competing openly against each other, but nowadays the two sexes compete separately.
Getting started
Not only is shooting great fun, it's also known to teach discipline and responsibility.
If you want to get involved, the Great Britain Target Shooting Federation is a good place to start.
Like many sports there are schemes to encourage young people to attain a high level.
