BBC coverage: America's Cup
The opening titles for BBC's TV coverage
BBC coverage will use cutting edge technology
The America's Cup challenger series gets under way on 1 October.

Sailing fans can expect a feast of exciting and innovative coverage of the America's Cup.

As sailing's premier event gets under way this autumn, the BBC will be there every step of the way to capture all the action on TV, radio and online.

And viewers who do not know their port from their starboard can rest assured there will be plenty of lively explanation so they can join in the fun.

"It's a massive investment in time and effort," said John Graham, senior producer for the America's Cup TV programming.

"We're purposely not just aiming at the sailing aficionados, but also at those who are fairly new to the sport."

Television

Part of the opeing title sequence for BBC's TV coverage
Viewers will be in the thick of it, thanks to onboard cameras
Experienced broadcaster Peter Snow and British yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur will present the BBC's TV coverage of the showpiece event.

Olympic sailing gold medallists Ben Ainslie and Shirley Robertson and round-the-world sailor Tracey Edwards will also be on hand to offer expert analysis.

They will be aided by cutting edge technology, including a telemetry-based vertical race feed, which shows the positions of the yachts using amazing 3D graphics.

The BBC also takes you right to the frontline with high-tech cameras aboard GBR Challenge's vessel, Wight Lightning.

The America's Cup programme begins a weekly run on BBC2 on Thursday, 3 October at 2320-2400 with highlights every Saturday on BBC1's Grandstand.

Coverage will continue until the end of the Louis Vuitton Cup challengers' series on 22 January and will recommence with the America's Cup final series from 15 February until 1 March.

Online

BBC Sport Online will, as ever, have unrivalled in-depth coverage of the sailing extravaganza, including coverage of the races, as well as regular webcasts with key members of the British team.

There will also be analysis, maps, photos, interaction and games - enabling sailing fans to keep up to date with all the action.
