Cornish sailor Pete Goss has slipped to 18th place in the Class 40 of the Route de Rhum transatlantic race from St Malo to Guadalupe.

Goss lost five places over the last three days, and is now just under 500 miles from the finish.

The race is Goss' first solo ocean race since 1996, when he was awarded an MBE for rescuing French competitor Raphael Dinelli in the Vendee Globe.

The Class 40 race has been won by Thomas Ruyant in Destination Dunkerque.
