GB duo eye future America's Cup

Ainslie is part of the British-based Team Origin outfit

Olympic medallists Ben Ainslie and Andrew Simpson still hope to compete in a future America's Cup, despite having been ruled out of the 2010 race.

The duo were part of Team Origin, who cannot compete in February because the United States courts said Swiss holders Alinghi must face US team Oracle.

"There have been two significant goals in my career," said Ainslie, who won his third Olympic gold in Beijing.

"I have had Olympic success - the America's Cup is still a goal."

Team Origin, a British outfit brought together by London 2012 deputy chair Sir Keith Mills, were hoping to be able to mount a challenge in the 33rd Cup.

Following the court ruling, other teams are now hoping they can organise their own competition so the rest can join in for the 34th running of the Cup.

Who will win the America's Cup?

A British team has not won the America's Cup since the first contest, which was around the Isle of Wight in 1851.

"It is very frustrating when there is a group of people, talented people, and these rules have been dragged from underneath you," stated Simpson, who won Star gold in Beijing with Iain Percy.

"It is different to the Olympics because it is a real team sport.

"There is so much history and it is a goal for the British to win back the America's Cup. For the sailors it is just the greatest, the oldest sporting trophy in the world."
