Robertson won gold with the "three blondes in a boat" in Athens |
Double Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson leads the Yngling class at the world sailing championships after a thrilling first day in Portugal. Robertson's fellow Britons Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson led the pack for most of the first race.
But Robertson, and her crew of Annie Lush and Lucy Macgregor, edged in front in breezy winds to pip her Athens crew-mates Ayton and Webb.
The second race saw Robertson, Lush and Macgregor finish in second.
Ayton, Webb and Wilson came back well to finish third, meaning Robertson led a British one-two going into the second day of racing for the women's keelboat class.
In the Finn fleet, Ed Wright made an impressive start, finihsing the day second overall after placing fourth and then first.
Great Britain ended day one of racing in the Finn class with five boats inside the top 20 but Olympic Finn champion Ben Ainslie is missing because of America's Cup commitments.
