Cup jury dismiss Team NZ protest
Defending champions Alinghi
Holders Alinghi are locked at 2-2 with Team New Zealand
The America's Cup race jury have dismissed Team New Zealand's protest about Alinghi's rig.

The five-member jury sat to hear the case after the Kiwis protested over the way Alinghi attach the mainsail when it is hoisted up the mast.

Defending champions Alinghi, of Switzerland, won by 30 seconds on Wednesday to level the best-of-nine series at 2-2.

The fifth race is set to take place on Friday in Valencia, Spain.

"The jury dismissed the protest by a majority decision," an America's Cup official said.

The last time an America's Cup series was this tight was when John Bertrand skippered Australia II past Dennis Connor's Liberty on the final lap for an improbable 4-3 series win in 1983.

That was the first time the Auld Mug, sport's oldest international trophy, left the United States since schooner America - from which the competition is named - won the inaugural race 132 years earlier.

Alinghi beat holders Team New Zealand 5-0 to win the Cup in Auckland in 2003.
