ABN Amro One dominated the 2005-06 race |
Volvo Ocean Race-winning sponsors ABN Amro will not back entries in the 2008 edition of the round-the-world event. The Dutch bank said in a statement that "all our objectives have been met," and described their participation as "a huge sporting and marketing success".
ABN Amro One, skippered by Mike Sanderson, won the 36,000-mile race in June while ABN Amro Two was fourth.
The victory was marred when AMN Amro Two sail trimmer Hans Horrevoets was swept overboard and died in heavy seas.
Ericsson and the Mean Machine syndicate have already confirmed their entries for the 2008-09 race.
It will feature ports of call in Asia and the Middle East for the first time, and organisers expect seven crews to enter the gruelling contest.
