McDonald skippered Assa Abloy to second in the 2002 Volvo race
British sailor Neal McDonald has been named as skipper of the Ericsson Racing Team's entry in the 2005-2006 Volvo Ocean round-the-world yacht race.

McDonald, a veteran of four round-the-world races, finished second as skipper of Assa Abloy in the last event in 2002.

The 41-year-old, who has also competed in the America's Cup, will be joined by countryman Steve Hayles as navigator.

"The team is shaping up well, in terms of people and boat," said McDonald.

Seven teams are so far confirmed to start the race with Ericsson from Sweden, two entries from the Netherlands and one each from Australia, Spain, Brazil and America.

Leg one of the nine stage race begins in Vigo, Spain on 12 November with the finish in Gothenburg, Sweden, on around 17 June 2006.
