| Tuesday, 17 December, 2002, 05:21 GMT Dream over for Prada
The winner will face Alinghi for the right to take on Team New Zealand in the America's Cup. Prada had trailed 3-1 and needed to win two races on Tuesday to force a decider on Wednesday. But a long delay caused by a lack of wind left too little time for them to catch OneWorld. After the race, Prada syndicate head Patrizio Bertelli called for a fundamental change to the rules. He said: "I think that in the future the rules should allow for greater flexibility in the race calendar in order to allow better use of the weather conditions during the whole span of the day. "Often we have seen whole days lost when a simple change to an earlier start would have allowed the competitors to race." Bertelli's comments echoed those made by International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge on Friday. Rogge questioned the relatively limited band of wind conditions between seven and 19 knots in which America's Cup challengers races are sailed. He said the America's Cup would gain greater recognition if races in the sport's premier event were staged in stronger wind conditions like most other sailing classes. |
