The GB men's quadruple scull crew won two silver World Cup medals

The Great Britain men's quadruple scull crew has withdrawn from the World Rowing Championships in Poland because of a back injury to Charles Cousins.

The British quad had been set to compete in Wednesday's repechage stage for a place in the semi-finals.

The women's quad, eight and lightweight men's pair sealed their places in their respective finals.

But there was disappointment for the lightweight men's four who failed to qualify for the main semi-finals.

On a brighter note for Britain, the team have a total of five crews already qualified for the finals this weekend, with 10 more in semi-final action over the next two days.

University students Rosamund Bradbury and Sarah Cowan, along with experienced pair Beth Rodford and Katie Greves, made up the women's quad which produced a superb last 250 metres to pull ahead of Italy and Russia and qualify for the final in second place.

In the lightweight men's pair, duo Ross Hunter and Oliver Mahony edged out Switzerland, coached by British 2000 Olympic champion Tim Foster, to qualify in second behind Serbia.

The women's eight, which included Tina Stiller who had recovered from illness, qualified for Sunday's final in third place behind Germany and Holland.
