The Irish crew compete in the World Championships next month |
Coleraine man Richard Archibald helped the Irish men's lightweight fours take gold at the World Cup Final rowing event in Lucerne on Sunday. Archibald, Paul Griffin, Eugene Coakley and Timmy Harnedy led from start to finish, crossing three seconds ahead of Germany and Poland.
The win was sweet revenge for the Irish after being pipped for second by the Germans in Munich last month.
It's the Irish quartet's first win in a World Cup event.
The Munich winners France did not compete in Switzerland but Lucerne is regarded as the most prestigious of the World Cup regattas.
The Irish will give the Irish quartet great confidence for next month's World Championships in Japan.
Prior to the World Championships, they will take part in a training camp at St Moritz.
