Armstrong will be going for a seventh Tour de France title in July |
Lance Armstrong has insisted he wants New York and not Paris to win the right to host the Olympics in 2012. The six-time Tour de France winner told a French newspaper last month that Paris deserved to stage the Games.
The American was labelled a traitor in his home country, and now seems to have changed his stance.
"I want to be clear that I think all the cities are deserving bidders," said Armstrong. "But none of them deserve it like New York City."
Last month Armstrong told Le Parisien: "To be honest, I think Paris deserves the Games.
"I think it was already the best candidate in 2008. The Games finally went to Beijing, probably for other reasons.
"But the candidacy of Paris is excellent, that's for sure.
"A few days ago, I went past the Stade de France and I think it would really be a great place for the opening ceremony. Paris is one of the world's legendary cities."
Paris and New York are vying with London, Madrid and Moscow to host the Olympics in 2012.
The winner will be chosen by International Olympic Committee members in Singapore on 6 July.
