Paris 2012 accused over embassies
Paris 2012
Paris 2012 organisers have been accused of breaking Olympic bid rules by using French embassies to promote the city.

Madrid 2012 have made an official protest to the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) ethical commission.

Paris launched their bid plans last week simultaneously in 15 embassies across the world.

Madrid also complained that Norwegian actress Wenche Foss spoke in support of Paris at the French embassy in Oslo last week, denigrating their rivals.

The 86-year-old reportedly said: "London? It's full of gentlemen's clubs. Scotland would have been better.

""New York? They would have to pay me to go there. Moscow? First we have to see how things are going there.

The bid clearly dissociates itself from the comments (Ms Foss) made on the other bidding cities
Philippe Baudillon,
Paris 2012 chief executive
"Madrid? It's not bad, but Paris is better."

Philippe Baudillon, Paris 2012's chief executive officer, said in a statement: "Wenche Foss was invited as a guest to a function at the French embassy in Norway on November 17, because of her particular links with France and Paris.

"Ms Foss is not an official ambassador of the Paris 2012 bid and she did not speak on behalf of the bid.

"Her views are not the views of Paris 2012 and the bid clearly dissociates itself from the comments she made on the other bidding cities.

"Paris 2012 had no control over the questions asked by the media and we do not at all endorse her personal comments."

Madrid 2012 claim they had been told that candidate cities were not allowed to use diplomats to promote bids.
