London has signed up one of the United Kingdom's leading business figures to promote its bid for the 2012 Olympics. Confederation of British Industry director general Digby Jones will join London's team of bid ambassadors.
"A London Olympic and Paralympics in 2012 would be an unmatchable prize with enormous opportunities for businesses," he said.
"The UK is in great shape. I look forward to playing my part in helping us get the Games."
London, Paris, Madrid, New York and Moscow are vying to host the Games in 2012, and must submit their final plans to the International Olympic Committee by next Monday.
The IOC's inspection team will then visit the cities in February and March ahead of the final vote on 6 July.
Other London bid ambassadors include Sir Steve Redgrave, Kelly Holmes, Amir Khan, Daley Thompson, Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Martin Sorrell and Paralympians Tanni Grey-Thompson and Ade Adepitan.
"Our ambassadors will play a vital role as we head towards the International Olympic Committee's decision in July 2005," said London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe.
