Nottingham Panthers got their recent slump out of their system with an 11-4 road thrashing of Newcastle on Monday. Panthers scored five unanswered goals in the first period to set up the win. Rob Bellamy netted six points including four goals, with Stevie Lee (2), David-Alexandre Beauregard (2), Marc Levers, Guy Lepine and Billy Ryan also scoring. But despite a second consecutive victory, Panthers are still only fourth in the Elite League table following a run of just three wins and five losses. Panthers also beat Dundee Stars 6-5 on penalty shots on Sunday and after Monday's resounding success Corey Neilson's men have 43 points, six points behind leaders Belfast Giants - who they meet at the National Ice Centre on Friday. Nottingham have three games in hand on the table-toppers but have played a game more than Cardiff Devils and Sheffield Steelers who are second and third with 48 and 46 points respectively. And although Neilson's side are still in the reckoning for the title, the festive period has been particularly disappointing with back-to-back defeats (6-3, 5-3) against arch-rivals Sheffield.
