Four players were thrown out following a bench clearance brawl in Coventry |
Nottingham Panthers' Elite League title hopes took a dent with only a point from their two weekend matches. Following Saturday night's feisty 2-1 defeat in Coventry, they were beaten at home by Hull on penalty shots after the game ended 4-4. Coach Corey Neilson said: "We had the lion's share of possession and chances. "I thought we defended pretty hard and puck management was a lot better [than Saturday night], but at times we were still a bit sketchy." Panthers' defeat at the Skydome on Saturday night included a bench-clearing brawl which saw Alex Penner and Guy Lepine thrown out for Nottingham, and Brad Cruikshank and netminder Brett Jaeger sent off for Coventry. Elite League bosses will make an announcement later in the week regarding any further punishment. Neilson's side remain second in the Elite League table |
Panthers lost the game 2-1, despite a late goal for British forward David Clarke. On Sunday, the game at the National Ice Centre finished 4-4 with Rob Bellamy and Marc Levers scoring either side of a Jade Galbraith brace. Hull netted three times in the shootout, with only Galbraith scoring for the Panthers. "It's just that final pass, that final goal, but I thought their goalie made some outstanding saves," added Neilson. "Credit to Hull as they did a very good job." Panthers remain in second spot in the table, five points behind leaders Belfast Giants but with three games in hand.
