Smith injured his knee during a fight with Justin Sawyer

Coventry Blaze have been forced to look for cover for defenceman Jeff Smith after he was ruled out for three months with a knee injury.

The 29-year-old has been on the sidelines since last month's 5-2 defeat by Cardiff Devils.

Coach Paul Thompson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "It's not great news but he needed his knee sorting out and the surgeon's done that which is fantastic.

"I think we're going to need to bring somebody in over that period."
