Brad Smyth started his career with the London Knights in 1990/1 |
The Belfast Giants have signed former NHL forward Brad Smyth in response to losing Brandon Benedict and Jeff Mason to long-term injuries. The Canadian, who comes to the Elite League from Austria, is a veteran of nearly 600 AHL games and 88 NHL matches in a 17-year professional career. "He's been one of the top scorers on nearly every team he has played for," said Giants coach Doug Christiansen. "He will be expected to put up some serious points in the Elite League." He added: "He is a guy who goes hard to the net and wins battles in the corners. "With Benedict and Mason out, we needed another offensive weapon and he is definitely that type of player." Smyth is expected to make his home debut with the Giants against the Cardiff Devils on Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena.
