Newcastle Vipers coach Danny Stewart believes forward Jamie Carroll can provide the goals needed to bolster the club's Elite League charge. With David Longstaff, Matus Petricko and Matic Kralj all leaving the club over the last year, Stewart thinks that Carroll can fill the gap. "Jamie brings us that go-to guy that every team needs," Stewart said. "He has consistently put up offensive numbers throughout and with us he will have every chance to succeed again. Stewart added: "His 80-point season is a measure of his capabilities. Added to his skill he is a good character on and off the ice. "It's becoming a mantra of mine - he will compete every night, which is exactly the type of player we want in Newcastle." Vipers have also signed Newcastle-born forward Paul Sample, 27, whose last spell in hockey was with the Belfast Giants in 2008/09.
