Danny Stewart's equaliser on Sunday was not enough for a point for Blaze |
Coventry Blaze were unable to make it back-to-back Elite League victories at the weekend, slipping to a home defeat by Cardiff Devils on Sunday. Blaze had beaten Newcastle Vipers 3-2 on Tyneside courtesy of a shoot-out the previous night. Greg Chambers got the game-winning goal in the north east following strikes from Luke Fulghum and Danny Stewart. But Coventry were edged out by the Devils at the Skydome, losing 2-1 with Stewart netting again. Tom Watkins set a new club appearance record for the Blaze over the weekend, 10 years on from his first match. Watkins played his 634th game in Newcastle on Saturday, eclipsing the mark of current Coventry general manager James Pease, and also featured in the defeat by the Devils.
