Leaders Nottingham Panthers continued their superb start to the Elite League season with a thumping weekend win over Belfast at the National Ice Centre. Player-coach Corey Neilson and Kevin Bergin both scored twice as Panthers recovered from 1-0 down to win 6-2. The visitors were level at 2-2 at the end of the first period but goals from Neilson, Bergin, Sean McAslan and Marty Gascon saw Panthers romp home. However on Sunday, Panthers lost 6-0 to Coventry Blaze in the 20/20 Hockeyfest. Neilson chose to rest several key men in the quarter-final tie of the inaugural 20/20 Hockeyfest competition but the plan backfired as Coventry cruised to victory. The competition saw all games played in two 20-minute running clock periods with each side only allowed to ice four outskaters at any one time. Coventry went on to reach the final where they lost 3-2 to Sheffield Steelers.
