Murdy helped Warriors qualify for the ENL play-offs last season |
Coventry Blaze have signed British teenager Tom Murdy as their back-up netminder for next season. The Great Britain under-18 international, who will be number two behind Peter Hirsch, has joined from English National League side Whitley. "He's done really well at Whitley," said Blaze coach Paul Thompson. "Tom is really looking forward to stepping up his development by coming to Coventry and working with Elite League players." Murdy is no stranger to the Skydome having twice played there for his previous club against Coventry's ENL side. | He wants to try to make it into the GB under-20 side and I think being part of the set-up here will give him a good chance |
He impressed on both occasions, once with a 34-shot shutout and the other time thanks to a man-of-the-match performance. The netminder made his debut for the GB under-18s last year and was part of the gold-medal winning team at the recent World Championships. Thompson added: "He now wants to try to make it into the GB under-20 side and I think being part of the set-up here in Coventry will give him a good chance of that." Blaze have also confirmed that British forward Greg Wood has joined English Premier League side Manchester Phoenix.
