Hull Stingrays veteran defenceman Troy Neumeier is set for a spell on the sidelines with a groin injury.

The 37-year-old Canadian has been ordered to rest for a period of two weeks, after which time the injury be re-assessed.

Neumeier told BBC Radio Humberside: "I don't know exactly what it is but I know it's a torn ligament.

"The injury is near the pubic bone and it's very painful. Until I get a scan I won't know the extent of it."

Neumeier, who is in his second season with the Stingrays having signed last year from Coventry, said his injury comes at a bad time for the club.

"We were just getting some numbers and now it looks as though I'll be having to watch the guys play.

"It's going to be two or three weeks now doing nothing but complete rest and after that we'll have to go from there."

Hull go to Coventry on Wednesday night in the Elite League without Neumeier but are hoping to have Ukrainian Pavel Gomenyuk back in action after missing the last two games with a rib problem.

However, Rays coach Rick Strachan said he will not be taking any risks on the fitness of the the 30-year-old.

"We can numb the pain and he could just destroy himself so it's not something we'd even consider with an injury like this," said Strachan.
