Canadian Steve Slonina scored his first goal for the Stingrays

Hull Stingrays coach Rick Strachan believes his side are starting to gel after watching them get past Edinburgh 4-2 in the Elite League.

After fives straight losses at the beginning of the season, the Rays have now won their last two matches.

Strachan told BBC Radio Humberside: "I think we showed glimpses of brilliance. We have a big strong team and it's taken us a few games to get it going.

"We have played against the better teams at the start though."

The Stingrays picked up their first outright win of the season and led 2-0 after goals from Jason Kostadine and Jake Riddle but the old failings crept in when they coughed up the lead to concede two goals in as many minutes as the Scottish side came back to level.

Martin Cingel and Joe Dustin scored just before the midpoint of the game but before the end of the second period, Jeff Glowa's fourth goal of the season nudged the Rays back in front.

With everything to play for in the third period, the Stingrays closed the game out, following a breakout goal from Steve Slonina, to leave Strachan happy with his injury-hit outfit.

"We were missing three players out there tonight and the team showed plenty of character to get over the winning line," he added.
