Cardiff Devils were shut-out 2-0 at home by Sheffield Steelers on Sunday night to complete a miserable weekend after their 5-3 loss at Belfast. Jody Lehman stopped all 28 shots and Joe Talbot netted twice for the visiting Steelers, who rebounded from their defeat to Edinburgh on Saturday. In a sold-out arena, the Devils were stifled by the Sheffield defence. The game boiled over at the end with Brad Voth, Mike Hartwick, Randy Dagenais and Andrew Sharp all involved. Despite the outcome, there were some positives for Devils coach Gerad Adams. Third-line forward Matt Towe earned himself the home side's man of the match award with persistent back-checking and defensive work. Defencemen Wes Jarvis and Likit Andersson made their home debuts after travelling to Belfast on Saturday. Talbot's first goal came on the powerplay at 33:02. Taking a pass from Ashley Tait, Canadian forward Talbot walked into the Devils' zone and flicked a wrist shot past goalie Peter Aubry. The second Sheffield goal followed a similar pattern. This time Steve Munn supplied the pass and Talbot, man of the match for the Steelers, produced the same result only 27 seconds into the third frame. The Devils aim to win their first Elite League points when they host the Hull Stingrays next Saturday night in the Bay (1900 BST).
