Nottingham Panthers defenceman Danny Meyers has been appointed as captain for the new season.

Meyers, in his third season at the National Ice Centre, was formerly assistant captain to Sean McAslan, who turned down a new contract in May.

Meyers told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's an incredible thing to happen to me and a proud moment for me and my family.

"I wanted his job and I realise how big the task is. I believe I am up for the job and I can thrive on the pressure."
