Walker agrees new deal at Phoenix

Ice hockey

Manchester Phoenix have re-signed Scottish forward Adam Walker for a third season.

Walker, 21, burst into the Phoenix team with 13 goals and 10 assists in his debut season, but struggled to make the same impact last season.

He said: "I never really wanted to go anywhere else, but at the end of last season I had a lot of thinking to do.

"I'm very pleased to be coming back to Manchester, I really like the city and club, it's become a second home."

Walker added: "Last year was a difficult one for me and I needed to evaluate precisely why.

He knows he has to re-apply himself to the job of being a professional hockey player

Phoenix player-coach Tony Hand on Adam Walker
"The bottom line is, I need to improve and keep on improving. I don't want to be a bit-part player for the club."

Phoenix player-coach Tony Hand said: "He's shown what he is capable of, now he has to show the hunger and desire in battle to achieve it consistently.

"He knows he has to re-apply himself to the job of being a professional hockey player and that will start, like everyone else, by coming to training camp fit, in good shape, and ready to go both physically and mentally."
