Wilson gave up playing to concentrate on coaching this season |
Newcastle Vipers coach Rob Wilson believes his underachieving side will show a vast improvement this season after bringing in 10 new players. Wilson told BBC Look North: "I feel we have a chance to compete in the top half this season. I'm very optimistic.
"We've gone out and brought in a lot of new faces. We've got a Czech, a few Ukrainians, half a dozen Canadians, and obviously the local lads.
"I am pretty excited about it. It's going to be a good team this year."
The 2006 play-off winners finished a disappointing eighth last season, and Wilson made no apology about issuing a squad overhaul.
"If you don't have a successful season, changes have to be made," he said.
"We've only kept one import in Andre Payette. The other nine are all new faces. It's a new-look team."
