The Belfast Giants are hoping to complete the signing of NHL veteran Theo Fleury in what would be a major capture for British ice hockey. Fleury, who has played more than 1,000 matches in the NHL, was approached by Giants investor Jim Yaworski.
"Fleury is keen to come to Belfast," said general manager John Elliott.
"But there are always paperwork and work permit hurdles to overcome and I will not be able to confirm his place on the roster for a few weeks yet."
Fleury has played for the Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks, scoring over 1000 points.
