Shane Johnson's Belfast Giants start against Newcastle |
The Belfast Giants will open the new season with a home match against Elite League newcomers Newcastle Vipers. The game will be played at the Odyssey Arena on Friday 9 September.
Newcastle and Edinburgh Capitals are the two new clubs in the nine-team Elite League and teams will play each other six times in the campaign.
The Challenge Cup will have two groups of four as Belfast have withdrawn from the competition because of early-season fixture congestion problems.
The nine Elite League teams for 2005-06 are Edinburgh Capitals, Newcastle Vipers, Basingstoke Bison, Belfast Giants, Cardiff Devils, Coventry Blaze, London Racers, Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers.
